This series attempts to uplift the voices of people who have typically been left out of the stories of our collective past. Set in the belief in the equality of people of all genders, races and more; these pieces readdress these ancient stories with a set of values aimed at dismantling gender inequality and the structures that uphold it.
There is no other heroine like Deborah in the Hebrew Bible, She is called a “mother in Israel” (Judge 5:7) perhaps because she was a biological mother. This would be important, showing that mothers might attain political prominence. Her arbitration powers as judge were parental, even maternal. “Mother,” like “father,” can be an honorific title for an authority figure or protector in the community but she was also a respected politico-judicial authority, a singer of victory songs, and a prophetess which solidified her role in her story.
